I'm coming out of my hole...
...yeah, yeah, I know. Heather keeps saying I'm going to post and then I never do. And eventually she gives in and you get a small peek into our world. And always through her eyes.
I've got no excuses, and my guess is that by now, we've lost most of you, but nonetheless, I thought I'd give it a whirl. I had to ask Heather what the username and password were just to sign on.
In a nutshell, this is what I can tell you.
1. The South is hot. Damn hot. While our friends in the north are suffering from endless rain, we've not seen a drop since July. In fact, the City of Greensboro has decided we can only water our garden once a week. There was an article in the paper detailing how tomatoes grow best when the overnight temperatures are below 70 degrees. That might suggest why, despite our having 13 tomato plants, we've harvested only two fruits. It's darn hot down here.
2. My Mom is moving to China this week. Yep, China, as in the country that is hosting the Olympics. She met someone at the pool who knew someone who was going to teach at an international school there, and the next thing I knew, her condo was on the market and she was seeking out her visa. Turns out, she still is. There have been lots of delays, but I expect she'll be airborne by Wednesday. I'm terribly excited for her, but admit to being a little sad. I'm going to miss her. A lot. But she's promised to call often and even maintain a blog of her own. I promise I'll add hers as a link to ours when she does.
3. Dad is getting a new kidney. From Jane. Yeah, I know. It sounds like a bad joke or the start of some urban legend story, but it is the truth. We got word today that Jane is a viable donor, so surgeons will perform the transplant at UW Hospitals on September 6th. I'll make the trip to Wisconsin to be with them...and we're all pretty excited to have it finally come to be.
4. We're going to Boston and Vermont this weekend. Heather's good friend Mia is getting married in VT, so we're going via Boston. Bring on the seafood and the canoli!
5. We're sorta training for a half marathon. Items one through four, mixed with the chaos that comes with our two jobs has made that a bit of a challenge, but we're running a fair bunch each week. And even getting up early enough to walk Ernie first. Refer to item #1 to understand our 5a.m. wake up calls.
6. We've both learned to wake board. We've been lucky enough to go to the lake a bunch this summer with our good friends Pam and Ruth, and they have both a boat and a wakeboard. And a whole lot of patience too. Heather even has a special outfit.
7. Ernie is a big dog. I think he weighs well over 80 lbs now. I prefer not to know for sure.
8. I have a job. That is all I have to say about that right now.
9. Did I mention that it is hot in the South?
10. I am officially a fan of Southern BBQ. I like it Lexington style with the red slaw. And hushpuppies on the side. I also have a NASCAR T-shirt, but I'm not really a fan. I just play one.
And with that, I'll sign off. I have a job afterall, and must prepare to go there tomorrow.
Cheerio.
