Vanity license plates in NC
As it turns out, characters other than letters and numbers are totally acceptable in vanity license plates in NC. So - it's not uncommon to see a license plate proclaiming things such as:
NEWCAR!
RJM+HEH
#1NCFAN
ME&YOU
ACCT'NT
Yep, all totally legal & legit. Troubling, isn't it? Even moreso when you realize that North Carolina offers over 100 "special" license plates - including special plates for NASCAR fans as well as alums of many of the NC schools (not UNCG though...) plus a number of out-of-state schools (like Purdue and University of South Carolina?!?!?!?!). Well that is fasinating, Missouri lets you get a "Sneak Peak" at your potential vanity plate by typing in your 6 characters and selecting the background plate to get an instant graphic of your future vanity plate.

Let me suggest choosing the "Fight Terrorism" plate with, I dunno, maybe the word Racist. Makes for a good picture which unfortunately I cannot attach to this comment.

So these special plates... Do you have to prove that you are a member of the organization? Or can I just walk up and ask for the Square Dance Club licence plate?

Being the granddaughter of a Mason, I feel it's my right to get a Free Mason plate. Think they'll go for it???
