It gets chilly here overnight -

(note I did not say COLD) and since Southern homes have about as much insulation as Nicole Richie has body fat, one MIGHT have to turn on the furnace so as not to turn into an icicle (or in Ernie's case - a pupcicle) in the wee hours of the morning.

So we did. Much to the shock (and delight) of our new Southern friends. Mind you - we have the thermostat set at 66 so it's not kicking in all the much or often. But our new friends are mystified, "But, y'all are from the North. You're used to the cold."

Uh-huh.

We are. And I tell you what. Being used to the cold means we know how to stay warm and when to turn on the darned furnace.

Just a little side note: high temp predicted today: 67.

Here in St. Paul it is currently 50 degrees and rainy. My thirfy brother turned on the heat last week, he also choose 66 to set the thermostat. So I understand your need to turn on the heat, especially since last week when the temp was 28 degrees with snow, the house was at a chilly 62 degrees. Those nights got pretty rough.

Well, I tell you what ... COLD is camping in a pop-up when the actual temperature gets down to 25 degrees (not counting the wind chill) and you wear long johns, 2 shirts, socks and a hat to sleep in your sleeping bag with one blanket and one comforter on top. Now, THAT is cold. (Not to mention insane. But it does separate the women from the wimps!) momh

The folks here bust out parkas when it drops to 60 degrees. I love a winter where a 45 degree january day is a valid reason to stay home from work. I salute you pacific northwest! xojd
