Overheard at my office, "It's so cold...they should close the University."
Yep, it's cold. Cold even for us hearty Wisconsin-types. It's 18 degrees and the windchill is making it feel like it's 8. There's a chance that the windchill will go below 0 today. But is it so cold that they should close the University? Hmmmmm.
Although she hasn't said anything - I have no doubt that a stiff freezing draft is blowing across Becci's built in 1937 office as I type this and one of the faculty member I work with just came in to the office and asked me to get Facilities Operations here as soon as possible as the temperature of the 1st floor of our building is hovering around 40 degrees.
And it's true - nothing, and I mean NOTHING, here is insulated properly or built draft-proof. And it's only fair to note that most of the year it doesn't need to be.
But is it too cold to walk to classes? Are the classrooms too cold to learn in? Are most of the offices on campus too cold to conduct business in? I don't really think so.
On the other hand - it sure would be nice to get sent home early today.

Maybe you could learn from UGA and heat your buildings with chicken fat. Fingers crossed for going home early! xo, jd
