We lied. But we didn't mean to. Does that make it any less bad?

(HEH & BJM)

When we said we were going to try to be a 1-car household for awhile, we meant it. Sort-of.

In that way that one means New Years Resolutions and promises to stay in touch with friends that move away (ahem).

You mean it at the time. You really do. You know it's the right thing to do, the smart thing to do, the healthy thing to do, perhaps the practical thing to do. And when we agreed on Sunday night to go ahead and sell the Focus to the nice 17-year-old on Wednesday, it's what we intended.

Except that we had already begun a wee little bit of car shopping online. And then on Tuesday night we went for a test-drive. And, again on Wednesday. And, again on Thursday. And had serious conversations about finances and work schedules and the alarming spring temperature and humidity levels that foreshadowed our naivete about walking to work in the summer. (It is a bit frightening to be in the upper 80s in late March with humidity one can cut with a knife).

And we wavered. Back and forth and back and forth and suddenly it all came together.

We lied. We're buying a new (to us) car.
