New rule.

I have a new rule. No cell phone use in the bathroom. Unless it is an utter life-and-death situation, it's just unnecessary, not to mention unbearably rude.

I don't want to hear your conversation. It's unlikely that the person you are talking to wants to hear you use the bathroom, flush the toilet, or wash your hands. It's even more unlikely that they want to hear ME use the bathroom, flush the toilet, or wash my hands. And it's CERTAIN that I don't want them to hear me use the bathroom, flush the toilet, or wash my hands.

It's enough of an invasion of privacy to have to share that experience with you, much less the person who is so important that you have to talk to them when you are in the bathroom.

So hang up before you enter the restroom. And don't answer your phone if it rings. Your lunch plans can wait 2 minutes. I promise.

+1 Agree!

I'm going to add this to my own personal list of forbidden bathroom behavior that includes: no performance management conversations and no bare feet. I don't want to hear your boss say you're going to be fired and I don't want to see your toes.
