parking on the "wrong side" of the street and all

posted by heather

ernie (insert ernie sigh) and i are holding down the fort over at old 1813 as becci toils away on this fine (hot and humid) memorial day. it's marching toward the 90 degree mark as i type and i've finally figured out why i can never find the humidity percentage around here - they don't report it (or perhaps, they don't report it readily).

so, becci's at work because uncg doesn't offer memorial day as a paid holiday (although you can take it off with vacation, personal, or comp time) due to the fact that you get 12/24 - 1/1 off every year and it only costs you 1 vacation day. if you don't believe me or are bored and want proof, you can find it here.

amy, chad, and heidi joined us for a visit from thursday thru sunday and we did our best to show them the high points (although not High Point, NC) of our new home including a backyard cookout with some of our gso-area friends, a day trip to chapel hill, dinner at green valley grill, a bbq-wine-grain mill driving tour, the greensboro grasshoppers (farm team for the marlins), and the late night burger-milkshake-hush puppy run to cookout...

other notable events of the weekend included a heated debate on whether or not raccoons and domesticated cats could mate and if so - could you justifiably shoot them (no they can't but sure shoot away we decided) and all the creative work on an upcoming flip book named Don't Toss the Hoss - One Small Hushpuppy Makes it Big (working title). unless there is some sort of publisher-enforced gag order, i'll try to post some photos soon.

and - yes, here in north cackalacky, we do park on the "wrong side" of the street when it's convenient. amy, chad, and heidi all saw it in action and i think it was amy who said, "well, if you can't beat 'em, might as well join 'em." yep - sometimes life is better less civilized and with optional parking laws.

all in all - a great visit and a wonderful treat to have such a successful "wisconsin meets north carolina" excursion.

ernie and i are about to brave it outdoors for a bit. i might need a strongbow for endurance. my mostly boot-legged supply's running low but i hear some cases of my beloved man-cans are about to head south w/ uncle gerry. thank goodness for small favors.

and to that end - the sheets are in the dryer and the towels are in the washer cuz here comes our second tour group of the month!
