Yesterday, Wednesday 1.31.07 - many area schools and businesses announced in advance that they would be closed today, Thursday 2.1.07, due to the forecasted weather (up to 3 inches of snow in the morning and freezing rain all afternoon). We left work just after 5 pm on Wednesday to clear, blue skies and sunshine with temps in the low 40s.

This morning, Thursday 2.1.07, shortly before 6 am, we learned that Guilford County Schools would be closed due to the weather that had yet to arrive. Moments later, we learned that our employer, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro would also be closed due to said weather. We set forth on a walk with Ernie and took the above photo. Note: no snow, no freezing rain, no ice, nothing - just clear skies and clear sidewalks. We were giddy at the prospect of a "free" day from work and our only regret was that it was too early to call anyone in WI to gloat.

By the end of our walk, snow had started to fall and was freezing to structures but not to the ground, sidewalks, or roads. Now - just before 9:30 am - the snow has stopped and the skies are clear. Ernie is uncertain what to do about the snow.

Truth be told - so are we. We went to the crazy buy-your-milk-and-bread-now grocery store and bought frozen pizza, each had a Starbucks treat, and came home and made waffles.Let the movies begin and here's hoping that freezing rain shows up, we sure would love an unexpected 4-day weekend!
