How does one go about finding a doctor in a new community? Well - best we could tell - they ask for recommendations from people the meet (and assume they can trust). So we did that. Without much success. Then I got 1 name, suggested by 2 people.
So I called. And was told, rather rudely by the front desk person, that as a new patient I would have to wait 7-8 weeks just to get in to meet the doctor and that wouldn't even be for a real appointment. It would just be literally to MEET the doctor and then a follow-up appointment would have to be made for any type of examination or consultation. I inquired about what I should do in the interim if I had a pressing (but non-urgent) issue that I needed to see a doctor about (like getting a prescription rewritten that couldn't wait that long).
The answer? Go to Urgent Care. Or one of the mega-clinics in the area that a number of people had suggested that we avoid at all costs.
Great. So I did some additional research and found information on a lovely young doctor who just graduated from UW Med School. I thought I would try her. Wrong. She's in a group of physicians who only accepts patients discharged from the Moses Cone Hospital.
What now? I have no idea. God d*mn south.

Although not really related, this story reminded me of how in the good old GA your car was not broken unless it was on fire. My fingers are crossed for you to find a great doctor soon. xo JD
